Prayer 04: Prayer of Examen | Discussion Guide

Debrief Last Week’s Practice (10 mins):

  1. How did last week's practice go?

  2. What was the most encouraging part of last week’s practice for you? What was challenging for you?

Discussion (20 mins):

  1. Watch this video on Ignatius of Loyola together.

  2. Read this week’s practice together. What stands out to you?

Do the practice together (30 mins):

Gather together in a comfortable space like the living room. You could play some light music to eliminate distraction. Have someone pray and welcome the Holy Spirit as you begin. Spend time working through each of these steps individually. You may want to take notes.

  1. Examine your day with gratitude. Where was God’s goodness, blessing, and joy in my day? What were the moments of goodness and joy I experienced today? Where am I grateful

  2. Examine your heart. What emotions did I feel today? Where did I fall short or give into sin today? What is one area of my life God is calling me to focus on?

  3. Talk to God about it. Thank God for the good things. Bring him your emotions, temptations, and failures. Tell God how you’re doing and ask for help to live differently tomorrow.

Take some time to share how this went for each of you. What did you experience?
